Man killed in ambulance collision

A man has died and another person was seriously injured in a crash between a car and an ambulance on a 999 call on the Isle of Wight.

The crash happened on East Cowes Road near the racecourse in Newport on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, were called but the man, who was travelling in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No-one travelling in the ambulance was injured.

They were later transferred to another emergency vehicle.

The other victim from the car has "very serious injuries", a police spokeswoman said.

Road closures were put in place in Fairlee Road.
