Suspected gunman held by police

Armed police were called to a block of flats in Hampshire after a report a man with a gun had threatened a resident.

Part of Shirley High Street in Southampton was closed but no-one was evacuated as police dealt with the incident in Shirley Road.

A man was arrested by officers shortly after they were alerted at about 2100 GMT on Tuesday night.

He is being held in custody and is due to be questioned on Wednesday. No-one was hurt in the incident.
