Mumbai survivor recalls shooting

A Hampshire man who was shot in the ribs and legs during the attacks in Mumbai has spoken about the moment the gunman turned on him.

Harnish Patel, of Havant, was injured in the massacre in India's financial capital which ended on Saturday. Six other Britons were hurt and one died.

The 29-year-old said: "He just opened fire on us. It was so prolonged, it just catches you by surprise."

The gunmen had reportedly been looking for UK and US passport holders.

The death toll has reached 195 people and 295 have been hurt.

"He [the gunman] headed towards one corner of the bar and saw me and a number of others at the back and then just opened fire on us," said Mr Patel.

"So I was hit in both legs and [had a] shrapnel wound to the side.

"One bullet went through my leg, the guy beside me was hit in the leg and two other guys beside him [were] shot dead and then he basically let one round go and then left.

"To hear gunshots and it is completely random, it is something you are not expecting."

His father, Manashvi Patel, 56, said his son is still in shock and cannot yet walk following an operation.

At least seven sites were targeted in the attacks.
