Woman badly hurt in mystery fire

A woman has been seriously injured in what police are describing as an "unexplained fire" in Southampton.

The woman, thought to be in her 30s, was badly burnt in the blaze at a property in St Monica's Road, Sholing, on Tuesday afternoon.

She was found by firefighters trying to shield herself from flames in the kitchen, police said.

The woman was taken by air ambulance to the specialist burns unit at Odstock Hospital in Salisbury.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
