Police said he was from the town. The 25-year-old female driver of the Seat Ibiza car was uninjured.

The biker, a 26-year-old man from Freshwater on the island, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car driver was a 48-year-old man from Wellow, also on the island.

The main road was closed for several hours.
