Plane lands after technical fault

A plane has landed safely at Southampton Airport after a technical fault was discovered.

The Flybe flight BE887 from Glasgow to Southampton landed without incident at 1845 GMT on Friday, Flybe said.

The aircraft landed ahead of schedule and all the 45 passengers on board disembarked normally, the firm added.

Four fire engines and 20 firefighters were on standby at the airport after Hampshire fire service received a call that "an engine was out" at 1818 GMT.

"In line with standard industry practice, Southampton Airport placed emergency services on standby," a spokeswoman for Flybe said.

"Safety remains Flybe's number one priority and the company will always take the necessary precautionary measures to ensure that the safety of our passenger and staff is never compromised."

Hampshire Constabulary said the M27 at junction five was shut "for a few minutes" as a precautionary measure.
