A 77-year-old grandmother was battered to death with her own rolling pin, police have revealed.

Georgina Edmonds was found by her son at her home in Brambridge, near Winchester, Hampshire, on 11 January.

Officers will reveal she was tortured and then killed with her own marble rolling pin in a television appeal on BBC's Crimewatch on Wednesday.

It will also be heard that the attacker locked the kitchen door when he left and took the key.

Mrs Edmonds had head injuries and had been tortured with a knife.

'Awake at night'

The television appeal will show a reconstruction of events leading up to her death.

Mrs Edmonds's daughter, Doddie Edmonds, said: "When I heard what had happened to mummy I felt something had died inside me.

"Something really precious had gone out of my life and I will never have it again.

"It is hard to think about what they actually did to her because it was so bad.

"What really does sometimes keep me awake at night is the thought that whoever killed my mother has probably spent the day having lunch in a cafe or having a pint in the pub and my mother is gone.

"But my mother had the most terrifying ordeal, absolutely terrifying and probably agonising."

Det Ch Insp Paul Barton said they hoped the appeal would "provoke someone's memory of what they may have seen that day".

He said: "The person responsible for Mrs Edmonds' death may have left the area and may now be living in another part of the country.

'Atrocious crime'

"Through the Crimewatch appeal we hope to speak to people throughout the country who may be able to give us information about someone who may have moved into their community since 11 January, who they feel may be connected to this area.

"Mrs Edmonds' home is located near to a train line and her home is visible from the train as it moves past the house.

"It is possible that someone travelling on this train may have seen something suspicious and may not realise its significance.

"We hope this appeal will bring new, fresh information forward.

"A £20,000 reward is still available and I hope this may encourage people to come forward.

"No matter how small or insignificant you think the information you have may be, please come forward and pass it on to us as your information could lead us to the person responsible for this atrocious crime."
