Up to 50 firefighters have tackled a blaze at a hotel on the Isle of Wight.

The fire at the Montrose Hotel in Shanklin, began at about 0245 GMT. It is not yet known how it started.

Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said it was not in use at the time but the owners, a family of four, were not injured.

The roof space and the first floor has been damaged by the fire. Crews are now damping down and using an aerial ladder to look for "hotspots" on the roof.
