A man who died after being stabbed at a bungalow in north Hampshire had recently been released from prison.

Dwayne Ayres, 20, of Yateley, was found in Holt Way, Hook, early on Sunday and died later in hospital.

Post-mortem tests showed he died from a stab wound. A murder inquiry is under way, and eight men and one woman have been arrested and remain in custody.

Mr Ayres was jailed for two-and-a-half years in 2007 after being convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police said they were alerted at 0239 GMT on Sunday by paramedics, after the seriously-injured man was brought to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.

Despite efforts to save his life he was pronounced dead soon afterwards.

The address in Holt Way and a property in nearby Four Acre Coppice have been cordoned off by officers.

Of those arrested, six people are being questioned on suspicion of murder and three on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Det Ch Insp Colin Mathews said: "A number of lines of inquiry are being investigated at this stage.

"We will not be drawn on the specifics behind the motives of this attack, particularly as a number of people are in custody.

"We would urge anyone with information about the incident who hasn't already contacted us to do so as soon as possible."

Hampshire Police said Mr Ayres leaves a partner and an 18-month-old baby.

Extra police are patrolling the area to reassure residents

In a statement, his family said: "Dwayne was a lovely, caring son to Vanessa and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him for what he was and will always be remembered.

"He had just started to live his new life with his love Emily and their son Richard.

"The family and the large extended family of relatives and friends will miss Dwayne."

In March 2007, Mr Ayres crashed his Peugeot 206 into a tree outside Calthorpe Park School in Fleet.

Callum Forbes, 15, and John Bryant, 18, were killed and two other teenage passengers were seriously injured.

Winchester Crown Court heard how Mr Ayres lost control of the car while driving at 66mph (106km/h) in a 40mph (64km/h) zone.

The court was also told that blood samples revealed he had taken cocaine shortly before the crash.
