Pedestrian killed in city crash

A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car in Southampton.

The 54-year-old man was crossing Thomas Lewis Way, by its junction with St Denys Road, when a blue Audi collided with him.

The man, from the Bitterne area of the city, died at the scene shortly before 1700 BST on Saturday.

The 22-year-old man who was driving the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Police are appealing for witnesses.
