Fears are growing for the welfare of a mother and her six-day-old baby who have gone missing in Southampton.

Christine Haines went missing on Sunday just two days after her son, Charlie, was born at the Princess Anne Maternity Hospital in Coxford Road.

The 22-year-old had not been officially discharged from hospital and her family are growing increasingly concerned.

Ms Haines, from Woolston, is white, of slim build, about 5ft 4ins tall and has blue eyes and long brown hair.

The spokesman added: "There are concerns for both her welfare and her son's.

"They have not yet been officially discharged from hospital and officers and her family are now growing increasingly concerned about them both.

"Police are appealing for Christine herself to get in touch with them so that they can check both she and her baby are well."
