Man rescued from tower block fire

A man was rescued from a tower block in Southampton after a fire broke out in a first-floor kitchen.

Emergency crews were called at 2223 BST on Thursday to Rotterdam Towers in Weston, Southampton.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the flat and brought the man to safety. He was given first aid for smoke inhalation.

The man was taken to Southampton General Hospital. The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
