Two Dobermans attack dog walker

A 67-year-old woman was bitten and left bruised when two Doberman dogs attacked her in Hampshire.

Elizabeth Smith was walking her poodle on Milton Common in Portsmouth when she spotted the two large dogs on Thursday.

As the pair ran towards her, the woman picked up her dog, Pippin, to protect it but was knocked to the ground.

One of the Dobermans jumped on her back and bit her while the other tried to get to the poodle. Police said it was a "horrific attack".

Mrs Smith said: "They were heads down, running, and their teeth were bared.

"One hit me right in the back and knocked me over and I fell to my knees and covered my dog with my body as they jumped up again and again on me and started to bite me.

"It's lucky I had a big, thick jacket on but they bit into my trousers, my bottom and the back of my legs.

"It could have been so much worse. My whole body hurts from the bruising but my little dog means the world to me."

The person who was with the Dobermans managed to get the dogs under control before running towards Eastern Road.

Mrs Smith was treated at a local surgery for bites and bruising to her body.

The boy who was with the dogs is described as white, aged 16 to 17, of slim build and about 5ft 10in (1.78m).

He was wearing a grey baseball cap and a grey jacket.

Pc Lee Gott, said: "This was a horrific attack on a woman who was trying to protect her dog.

"Had the victim been a child, then the injuries could have been far worse."
