Two dead in two car Island crash

Two people have died and two people have been seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Isle of Wight.

At about 1507 BST a Seat car was travelling in Briddlesford Road towards Wootton when it was in collision with a Toyota at the Blacklands Lane junction.

The victims, who were local people aged in their 70s, were travelling in the Toyota vehicle.

Briddlesford Road near Newport was closed for six hours after the crash while police examined the scene.

The two occupants of the Seat had to be cut free from their vehicles. Their condition was not life-threatening.
