Pedestrian killed in lorry crash

A pedestrian has died and a woman has been seriously injured in two separate collisions on the A303 in Hampshire.

A man was walking along the east-bound carriageway near Andover early on Sunday when he was struck by a lorry.

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed.

Later a woman got out of her vehicle, also on the east-bound carriageway, at Sutton Scotney and was struck by a car. She suffered life-threatening injuries.

The victim, who had been driving a Mazda 6, was struck by a Vauxhall Omega.

A 60-year-old woman from Andover has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving.

The A303 was closed at both incidents but fully re-opened at about midday.

Police have urged any witnesses to contact them urgently.
