Two men held under anti-terror laws after they were seen jumping from a lorry near an oil refinery have been re-arrested for immigration offences.
The men, who were held on Monday under the Terrorism Act 2000 by the Esso refinery in Fawley, Hampshire, will now be dealt with by the UK Borders Agency.
The oil refinery temporarily closed one of its gates at the time of the incident.
An Esso spokesman said: "This incident shows that our security works."
'Suspicious circumstances'
A police spokesman said: "The inquiry began at about 1030 BST yesterday when police were called to the Hardley Roundabout, Fawley, after the men were seen to emerge from a lorry at the entrance to the oil refinery in suspicious circumstances.
"Following inquiries and interviews, the pair were released under the Terrorism Act and re-arrested for immigration offences only."
The Esso refinery on Southampton Water is the largest of its kind in the UK and one of the most complex in Europe.
It handles about 2,000 ship movements and 22 million tonnes of crude oil and other products each year.
