Man dies when he is struck by van

A man died when he was struck by at least one vehicle on a motorway in Hampshire in the early hours.

The 28-year-old, who is believed to be local, was hit by at a Mitsubishi Carisma van on the A3(M).

His death is not being treated as suspicious. The driver of the van, a 38-year-old man from Ryde, Isle of Wight, was treated for shock.

The road was shut for several hours and police are appealing for witnesses to the crash near junction 5.

The victim's car, a VW Polo, was located a short distance from the scene on the B2177 Bedhampton Hill bridge, above the A3(M).
