Mobility buggy's 8mph A-road ride

A pensioner was found travelling on his mobility scooter at 8mph (12.9km/h) on a busy dual carriageway in Hampshire.

The 81-year-old was pulled over by police on the A27 near Portsmouth after worried motorists called 999.

He was not breaking the law because he was not on a motorway, but officers told him it was not a good idea.

The man, from Hayling Island, had been shopping in nearby Farlington and said he took the dual carriageway because it was faster.

He was picked up near the junction with the A3 (M) motorway on Monday.

The man was given a lift home in a Hampshire Constabulary van, along with his buggy.
