Man suffers broken jaw in attack

A 48-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was attacked with a blunt wooden weapon in Hampshire.

The victim was left with a broken jaw, wounds to his neck and cuts to his head in the unprovoked assault as he walked along Farringdon Road, West Leigh.

He was treated in hospital after the attack early on Sunday morning.

The male attacker is described as white, in his 20s, about 5ft 9in, of medium build with short fair hair. He was wearing light-coloured clothes.

Det Con Leith Morrison, of Hampshire police, said: "This is an extremely nasty and unprovoked assault that has left the victim with serious injuries.

"This type of crime is totally unacceptable and we will make every effort to find the person responsible."
