Man jailed over fatal hit-and-run

A man has been jailed for 20 months and banned from driving for two years for failing to stop after he hit an 11-year-old boy, who later died.

Theodore Hixon-Denton was hit by 20-year-old Jason Tobola's vehicle in Bitterne, Southampton, in November.

Tobola, of Southampton, admitted in June that he failed to stop, failed to report the crash, and had no insurance.

He also admitted perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court.

He also admitted he drove dangerously after the crash because his windscreen was damaged.

The judge on Friday ordered that Tobola's car be crushed.

Theodore was taken to Southampton General Hospital with a police escort following the crash, but later died.

The next day his mother, Julia Hixon, sister, Lydia, and brother, Louis, paid tribute to him.

In a statement, they said: "Theodore was a very much loved son, brother and grandson.

"He was a very happy and mischievous 11-year-old.

"At the moment we don't know how we will manage without him. Our hearts are broken."
