Inmate, 60, found hanged in cell

An investigation has been launched following the death of a 60-year-old prisoner found hanging in his cell.

Terence Patrick Coughlan was discovered by staff at Parkhurst Prison, on the Isle of Wight, about noon on Monday.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Coughlan - on remand for harassment and breaching an anti-social behaviour order - but he was pronounced dead.

He was not on suicide watch. The inquiry into the incident will be held by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
