Dangerous road crossing protests
Parents are to stage a series of demonstrations in a Hampshire parish to press for a safe school crossing.

School crossing officers who retired last year have not been replaced and children now cross the A35 at Colbury unassisted.

Hampshire County Council said the road, which has a 50mph (80kph) speed limit, is too dangerous for the officers.

A feasibility study will examine such options as crossing by underpass, bridge or Toucan crossing.

But Ashurst and Colbury Parish Council said the report is expected in November and if agreed the work would be scheduled for 2008-2009.

Parents and residents want a more immediate measure implemented while a long term solution is devised.
