Woman raped while going to shops
A young woman was grabbed from behind and raped as she walked to the shops late at night.

The 22-year-old woman was attacked shortly after midnight as she walked to a local convenience store along Bailey's Road in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Her attacker, who is described as a 25 to 35-year-old man who is 5ft 10ins tall, fled towards St Andrew's Road.

The road was cordoned off as officers searched for evidence and conducted door-to-door inquiries into the night.

Student neighbourhood

The man was described as wearing dark jeans which are thought to have been tucked into his boots.

Acting Det Ch Insp Guy Robyns, of Hampshire Police, said: "Baileys Road is a residential area popular with students.

"There may well have been people passing by at that time of night and we'd like to speak to anyone who was nearby at the time who saw or heard anything suspicious."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
