A paralysed sailor is attempting to circumnavigate Great Britain alone in a specially-adapted trimaran.

Geoff Holt from Shedfield, Hampshire, is starting at the Royal Southern Yacht Club, Hamble, in his boat Freethinker.

Mr Holt, 40, paralysed from the chest down following a swimming accident, hopes to become the first disabled person to make the journey solo.

The journey is expected to take about 50 days. Mr Holt is being tracked by a support vessel and shore crew.

Writing in his blog before he set off, the former professional yachtsman said: "It is certainly extremely stressful and I'm feeling pressure and responsibility like I have never felt before."
