Eight boats have been severely damaged in a fire at a boatyard in Hampshire.

About 75 firefighters tackled the blaze at the yard in Vespasian Road, Bitterne, Southampton, in the early hours of Friday.

Neighbouring flats had to be evacuated with people moved to a local school, although they have since been allowed to return to their properties.

The incident was still being tackled at dawn, with four jets and an aerial ladder platform being used.

The cause of the fire was not known and no one was injured in the incident.
