Unwanted slippers can be replaced with slip-resistant pairs
|
A new slipper exchange service has been launched in Hampshire in an attempt to reduce the number of pensioners who fall in their homes.
Older people who have worn through the tread on their slippers can trade them in for a free slip-resistant pair at one of 12 road shows around the county.
Age Concern and Hampshire County Council have 1,000 pairs to give away as part of SLIPper Concern.
They are specially designed for men and women and come in a range of sizes.
The slippers will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis, with Age Concern foot experts checking to make sure they fit properly.
Hampshire County Council leader Ken Thornber said: "This simple yet effective idea could indeed prevent older people from falling within their own homes and potentially being admitted to hospital initially, with long-term care requirements in the future."
