Bomb team continues house search
Scene of investigation in Baughurst
One man is currently being questioned
Police are continuing to examine a house in a Hampshire village where several suspicious devices and home-made explosive powder were found.

Streets around Wellington Crescent, in Baughurst, were evacuated on Saturday night while the house was searched.

Police said they received information about possible explosives after the arrest of a 24-year-old man.

Detectives were given more time on Sunday night to quiz a man on suspicion of possessing explosive materials.

Bomb disposal experts and police forensic teams returned to the house on Sunday to carry out a detailed search.

Police said any suspicious items would be removed for further examination.

There is no suggestion at this stage that the devices were connected with any terrorism or any extremist groups

A spokesman said: "Officers had earlier arrested a man in his early 20s in connection with an unrelated matter of criminal damage.

"It was following this arrest that they received information about possible explosives at the house in Baughurst.

"There is no suggestion at this stage that the devices were connected with any terrorism or any extremist groups."

Two military bomb disposal teams, 25 police officers and two ambulances attended.

The house was cordoned off and Hampshire police officers kept guard overnight.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue was on stand-by with two fire engines and nine firefighters while the devices were made safe.

'Deer and foxes'

Some residents were moved to Hurst Community College, but were allowed home just after 0100 GMT on Sunday.

Resident Ken Grinstead said: "It's extraordinary to see police in those sort of numbers around here.

"We are just as surprised as everyone here that something like this could happen in this quiet close.

"It's a country village, you get deer and foxes on the lawn from the wood opposite.

"It's something you don't expect to happen in your area. We all have something to talk about this morning."
