CCTV may show Iraqi race attack
CCTV camera (generic)
Police are to study CCTV footage to see if the attack was filmed
Police investigating a racist assault in which an Iraqi teenager was almost killed are hoping CCTV camera footage will help them catch the attacker.

The 18-year-old victim was rushed to hospital with severe lacerations to his neck after the attack in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, on Saturday night.

He is currently in hospital in a "stable condition", police said.

A 23-year-old local man arrested following the assault was released on police bail on Monday.

'Considerable progress'

He will reappear before police on 4 October.

Det Con Richard Rock said: "The man has been bailed for further inquiries. We will now be analyzing CCTV footage to establish exactly what happened.

"This is a serious incident and one which we are aiming to make some considerable progress on in the coming days."

Police said first aid given at the scene by a passer-by saved the victim's life.

He was with an Albanian friend when he was attacked at about 2230 BST.
