Sailors warned of unexploded mine
Sailors are being warned to be on their guard after an unexploded mine was discovered off the Isle of Wight.

The explosive, thought to be from World War II, was discovered by the crew of the Royal Navy minehunter HMS Walmey while on exercise, the coastguard said.

Bad weather has kept the mine from being dealt with, and it has had to be left in its position off The Needles.

Solent Coastguard said they were sending out warnings to trawlers and dredgers about the buoyed off area.

It is thought the minesweeper will attempt to defuse the explosive in a few days' time once the weather has improved.
