Man in court over soldier murder

A 26-year old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a soldier who was found strangled at his army barracks more than three years ago.

Private Andrew Dobson, 23, from Dumfries in Scotland, was found dead at McMullen Barracks at Marchwood military port, Hampshire, in November 2002.

Anthony Peter Stewart, from Banff in Scotland, appeared before Lyndhurst Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on 13 February.

Pte Dobson, who was single, was serving with the 17th Port and Maritime Regiment as a port operator.

Mr Stewart was also a private soldier based at McMullen Barracks at the time of the alleged murder.
