£1m for Attenborough tsunami fund
Lord Attenborough
Members of Lord Attenborough's family died in the tsunami
A charity appeal supported by Lord Attenborough in aid of a Thai village struck by the Asian tsunami has raised more than £1m.

The Khao Lak Appeal was launched after six members of a group of friends from the Emsworth area in Hampshire were killed in the 2004 Boxing Day tragedy.

They included Lord Attenborough's daughter, grand-daughter and his daughter's mother-in-law.

The money will help rebuild the village's schools and other facilities.

Nick Riddle, of Nutbourne, West Sussex, whose daughter Holly, 21, died, said he had been overwhelmed by the public response to the appeal.

He said: "The support from the public has been fantastic and we want to thank everyone who has contributed."
