A teacher from Southampton has been named primary school teacher of the year at a national awards ceremony.
Trevelyan May, from Sholing Junior School in Southampton, won the honour at the Teaching Awards in London.
Mr May has now left the Southampton school after nine years there during which time SATS results increased significantly under his instruction.
The school governor who nominated Mr May described him as the "jewel in our staffing crown".
The governor said: "I've seen them come and I've seen them go but the one true greater than great teacher, the one most dedicated and committed to individual children, is Trevelyan."
The Teaching Awards Panel members agreed, saying: "Trevelyan is truly an inspiring, vibrant, energetic and dedicated teacher."
