UK sailor extradited to Morocco
John Packwood
John Packwood has always maintained his innocence
A yachtsman from the Isle of Wight has been extradited to Morocco to face charges linked to drug smuggling.

John Packwood, 42, had been in a Spanish prison since his arrest in October 2004.

Moroccan authorities want to question him about the discovery of six tonnes of cocaine on a boat in 1997.

He says he is innocent, having helped deliver the vessel 10 weeks earlier. He is backed by a number of MPs and Fair Trials Abroad.

Arrest warrant

Mr Packwood was a member of a crew that took the boat to Morocco from Southampton.

The cocaine was discovered weeks later when the vessel was under the control of a new crew.

Mr Packwood was held in Malaga under an international arrest warrant issued by the Moroccan authorities.

They are also seeking the extradition of the other crew members.
