Ellen MacArthur is to be given the freedom of the Isle of Wight after her record-breaking sailing journey.
MacArthur will become only the second person to receive the honour, joining Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella.
Plans are also being put in place for a civic reception and a parade around the island, where the 28-year-old lives.
Chairman of the island's council Peggy Jarman will formally propose the honour at a meeting on 22 February.
Mrs Jarman said: "Ellen has chosen to live here, to train here and to base her team here, so this is the least we can do in recognition of what she has done to raise the island's profile - literally around the world."
