One killed in boat gas explosion
The fire after the blast on a boat at Smith Quay, Southampton
Two people were injured in the blast on Friday afternoon
One person has died and another has been seriously injured in an explosion while they carried out work on a boat.

The blast caused fire to spread throughout the vessel, moored at Smith Quay, Peartree Green, Southampton, on Friday afternoon.

Five fire engines were sent to the scene and police said at least one propane gas cylinder was thought to have exploded.

It is thought the blast happened as the men smelted lead to use on the hull.

Emergency crews remained on site, a police spokesman said.

Road closures were put in place while the incident was dealt with, but only Hazel Road has remained closed.
