Injured fan 'makes good progress'
Jamie Turner
Mr Turner regained consciousness after three weeks in a coma
A Manchester United fan left with serious head injuries after he was attacked in Southampton is making "steady progress", his family said.

Jamie Turner, 45, from Telford in Shropshire, was in a coma after he was injured in a fight involving 20 people before a football game in Southampton.

His wife Karen Turner said he has started walking short distances and talking to his family.

She renewed her call for help to find those responsible for the attack.

Doctors said it was still too early to tell the extent of the brain damage suffered by Mr Turner, who regained consciousness two weeks ago.

He is being treated at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford after being transferred from the Wessex Neurological Unit at Southampton General Hospital.

Mrs Turner said: "Jamie continues to make steady progress and has walked a short distance. He is talking to his family.

"We appreciate the public concern for him, but we would appreciate some privacy to allow Jamie to continue with his rehabilitation."

Detectives from Hampshire Police have travelled to Manchester to interview eyewitnesses to the brawl outside the Gladstone Club on Clifford Street, which started shortly before kick-off.

The game saw Southampton relegated from the Premiership after losing 2 - 1 to Manchester United.

Former Manchester United star Sir Bobby Charlton recorded a special television appeal for witnesses to come forward for MUTV, the team's own television channel.
