Company unveils wind farm plans
Wind turbines
The Wellow project would consist of six large turbines
Plans for a controversial wind farm on the Isle of Wight are being put on public display.

The proposed £14m project will see six turbines generating enough power to supply 6,165 homes - 10% of households on the island.

Your Energy, the company behind the project, is holding an exhibition at the Wellow Literary Institute on Thursday between 3pm and 8pm.

Critics say the development is too large and will dominate the landscape.

Local investment

Charles Sandham, of Your Energy, said: "We wish to find out what local people think about our project, share our plans and listen to feedback before we submit our proposals."

The company claims the wind farm could also bring more than £3m into the regional economy during construction.

But some locals have set up a campaign group called THWart (The Wight Against Rural Turbines) to fight the plans.

They claim the natural beauty of the area will be destroyed by the building of the 70-metre high structures.
