Closure plan threatens 120 jobs

Up to 120 jobs are under threat at Siemens in Gloucestershire as the company restructures global production.

Managers at Siemens Flow Instruments, which has a manufacturing facility in Stonehouse, said the move aims to ensure the business stays competitive.

Staff have been assured they will be fully-consulted over the proposals to close the factory.

Siemens has more than 18,000 employees, of whom about 5,000 are involved in manufacturing in the UK.

Ian Almond, the general manager of operations at the factory, said he and his staff had been told they have 90 days to get the threat of closure lifted.

"Our aim now is to act positively, bring a strong counter proposal forward, take that to our group managers and they will review that proposal.

"And the aim is for us to show them there is a different opportunity for them to achieve their goals."

Siemens Flow Instruments manufactures electromagnetic flowmeters, which are used to measure the flow of liquids through industrial equipment.
