Plane fails to take off at sale

The replica Focke-Wulf Fw 190
The plane was described as being a replica of one flown by a notorious fighter pilot

A half-sized replica of a German World War II fighter plane has failed to sell at an auction in Gloucestershire.

The single-engine Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was used by the Luftwaffe during the war and is believed to be one of only two that are airworthy.

Auctioneers had expected the plane to reach up to £25,000 but the highest bid was £18,000 which the owner declined.

It is described as a replica of the plane flown by the notorious WWII fighter ace Major "Sepp" Wurmheller.

The plane was offered for sale with a current permit flight release and a CAA radio licence.
