The fire service was called at 0745 BST on Tuesday

Police divers looking for a body in the River Severn at Gloucester have called off their search.

A fire service boat, helicopter and police divers were involved in the operation on Tuesday without success.

It is believed a member of the public said they spotted a body in the water near Gloucester prison.

Previously Gloucestershire Police had said a body had been found in the river in the city centre and that efforts were being made to recover it.

The search was begun after the fire service received a call at around 0745 BST saying a body had been seen in the water at the city centre's Gloucester Docks.
