Mother died after ambulance wait

A woman died at home in Cheltenham after waiting more than two hours for an ambulance ordered by her doctor, an inquest in Gloucester has heard.

Mother-of-three Georgina Britton, 34, was treated as a non-emergency by Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS).

Her GP Dr David Price said staff at Cheltenham General Hospital "gave the impression" they were busy and would "appreciate a delay in her admission".

Miss Britton died after suffering a haemorrhage on 14 January 2008.

Her partner called paramedics urging them to attend "as soon as possible" the inquest was told.

Dr Price told a GWAS call operator to send an ambulance to Miss Britton's house in Devonshire Street within two hours, Gloucestershire coroner Alan Crickmore was told.
