A porpoise has died after getting stuck in the River Severn in Gloucestershire.
The female creature - at first thought to be a dolphin - was spotted stranded on Maisemore Weir in an agitated state after making her way up the river.
A lifeboat crew trained in helping stranded animals was dispatched to try to help her back to deeper waters.
The Marine Conservation Society said porpoises liked to stay close to the shore so this was an unusual incident, although not unique.
