Pet chicken lays 'dinosaur egg'

Little Lil and large egg
Little Lil has laid eggs which are 10cm long and 7cm wide

A pet chicken belonging to children at a school in Gloucester has surprised the class by laying an egg which measures 10cm long and 7cm wide.

James, aged nine, from the Raikes Centre in Kingsholm said: "It looked really strange because it was so big - I thought it was a dinosaur egg."

The chicken, called Little Lil, laid the egg last weekend. A normal egg would measure about 4.5cm by 7.5cm.

Little Lil is one of four pet hens at the school and is the smallest.
