Power failure affects 100 homes

More than 100 homes were without power across Gloucestershire on Sunday morning after strong winds brought down power lines across the county.

The supply has been cut to 47 people in the Brockhampton area of Cheltenham and a further 57 are affected in Stroud.

A spokesman for Central Networks said engineers had been working since dawn to restore power to the homes as soon as possible.

BBC weatherman Ian Fergusson said: "We recorded wind gusts of over 60 mph."

On Monday morning up to 30 businesses in Cheltenham will be without electricity as Central Networks plans to dig up part of Lower High Street to connect a new hostel to the supply.
