Business waste swap shop launched

A free trade-in scheme has been created to help businesses in Gloucestershire dispose of surplus materials.

ScrapShop is a new website where firms can exchange or sell excess stock with other businesses.

The site was created using a Cheltenham Borough Council grant of £2,000, which was match-funded.

A business discussion forum will be hosted on the site for regular users to send one another instant messages which should speed up transaction rates.

"Scrapshop.co.uk aims to save thousands of tonnes of waste going to landfill and will benefit the local economy as more businesses trade with one another," said Steve Jordan, leader of the borough council.

Matthew Roper, project manager for Cheltenham business GreenBuying, which is behind the website, said: "The vision of GreenBuying is to help organisations source recycled products and to help them make their purchasing practices more sustainable."
