Robert Raikes statue vandalised

A statue of Robert Raikes in Gloucester Park has been vandalised.

Red and white paint has been smeared over the statue of the pioneer of Sunday Schools, which has been standing in the park since 1930.

It had recently been cleaned and fully restored as part of a £1m makeover of the city park.

A spokesperson for Gloucester City Council said the vandalism was reported on Monday. The council is now assessing the damage.
