Seven new driver information signs are being installed on the M5 in Gloucestershire.
They are to go up between junctions 11 and 11a near Cheltenham and will give information on traffic and temporary speed limits.
The work begins on Monday and is due to be completed next May.
Motorists are warned there will be occasional narrow lanes and 50 mph speed limits as fibre optic cables are laid alongside the carriageway.
Highways Agency project manager Colin Gimblett said: "The new signs will greatly improve our ability to communicate quickly and directly with road users on this busy stretch of the M5."
