Town takes part in Citizens' Day

People living in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire are being invited to celebrate their town and participate in its first Citizens' Day.

The event is free and features entertainment from dance to birds of prey demonstrations.

Community and voluntary groups will have displays offering information about their services.

Citizens' Day has been sponsored by the town and county councils, police and the Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust.

Geoff Sloman, of Cheltenham Borough Council, said: "This is Cheltenham's first Citizens' Day.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate all of our communities and the very best of our town.

"Our aim on Sunday is to demonstrate to local people what is on offer and to encourage them to participate and support their own communities, by using their knowledge and skills to help others.''

The event is open to everyone and is being held at Pittville Pump Rooms and park on Sunday 19 October from 1100 to 1600 BST.
