Keeper's fear for missing wallaby

The missing wallaby is described as 'very quiet' and not at all aggressive

Park keepers fear a wallaby, missing from an adventure park, will be knocked over on a busy road if not found soon.

The marsupial managed to escape from Cattle Country in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, over the weekend.

He was seen during Saturday morning near the Newport Towers Hotel and again on Sunday evening near the park.

A park spokesman said: "He's very quiet and not at all aggressive. I just fear he'll be knocked over on the busy A38 if we don't find him soon."

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: "In the first instance, a patrol car attended the incident before seeing the wallaby hop off into a field. The RSPCA were then informed."

Park manager Ellen Sealey said: "We don't really know why he escaped. He's obviously jumped the fence or found a hole somewhere.

"Our main concern is that he will be involved in an accident. The RSPCA have said there are some running around in the wild anyway, but you don't see many wallabies in Berkeley."

She said there were no concerns about security at the facility and that the fencing met all required standards.

He was housed with another male wallaby of the same age, which remains in captivity.
