A teenager has been nominated for a police bravery award after saving a friend from drowning.

Sam Davies put his own life at risk when he dived into a brook to save his friend Stefan McNaught, who was unconscious at the time.

The 14-year-old from Gloucester told BBC News: "I saw him face down in the water so I jumped in and got him out.

"I got his head out of the water and rang the ambulance, which took about 10 minutes."

His father Steve Davies added: "The entire family are very proud. It was a very instinctive moment for him."
